Men's Golf Takes Fifth at Opening MIAA Jamboree;
Men's/Women's Soccer Teams To Play "Up on the Roof" this Weekend
MEN'S GOLF
MARSHALL - The Calvin men's golf team opened its 2013 MIAA fall campaign with a fifth place team score of 324 at the opening MIAA Jamboree. Thursday's MIAA Jamboree was held at the Medalist Golf Club with Albion College serving as host.
Calvin finished one stroke ahead of sixth place Kalamazoo and two strokes behind fourth place Albion. Hope took first place team honors with a score of 317.
Junior James Van Noord (Troy/Troy Athens HS) had a stellar outing for Calvin, recording a score of 74 that was good for a tie for second place individually. Senior Jake Hoogstrate (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) was next for Calvin with a 77, good for a tie for eighth place individually.
Senior Mark Allen (Oconomowoc, WI/Lake Country Lutheran HS) had an 84 with sophomore Justin Crow (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) and freshman Brad Smith (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick HS) rounding out Calvin's finishers with scores of 89 and 91 respectively.
Marty Predmesky of Alma claimed medalist honors with a round of 71.
Calvin is back in action on September 13 when it competes at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Adrian at the Lenawee Country Club.
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SOCCER
The Calvin men's and women's soccer teams will be in action this Friday and Saturday at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raider Invitational. Both teams will face Loras College (IA) on Friday with the men's game set for 2 p.m. (EST) and the women's game for 7 p.m. (EST).
Of special note will the playing field as the entire tournament will take place on top of a parking garage.
