Women's Lacrosse Defeated by Alma 12-3;
Women's Tennis Edged by Aquinas 5-4

WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Alma 12, Calvin 3
 
CALEDONIA - On an evening filled with snowflakes, the Calvin women's lacrosse team dropped a 12-3 decision to Alma College at Davenport University's Turf Field. Although the team was between two MIAA schools, it was an early non-conference game as the league season will not start for Calvin until April.
 
Alma (5-1) led 8-0 at halftime, scoring five goals in a four-and-a-half minute flurry in the first half to take control.
 
Calvin (0-3) later came back with three unanswered goals to close to within 10-3 in the second half but the Scots scored the final two tallies to seal the win.
 
Senior Katie Pranger (Denver, CO/Denver Christian HS) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the year while senior Nicole Perregaux (Upton, MA/Nipmuc Regional) scored off a feed from freshman Carolyn Forbes (Farmington Hills/Marian HS) while sophomore Nikita Blaauwendraat (Princeport, Novia Scotia/Cobequid Educational Centre) scored unassisted.
 
Alma held a 36-24 shots at goal advantage. Senior Lauren Spoelstra (Oakland, NJ/Eastern Christian HS) had 14 saves for the Knights in goal.
 
Calvin will host Hope Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in a non-conference game at Davenport's Turf Stadium.
 
MEN'S LACROSSE
 
Calvin's match against Hope on Wednesday will be playe at 7:30 p.m. at Davenport University. The match was originally slated for 4 p.m. at Grand Rapids Christian High School but has been moved to Davenport because of field conditions.
 
WOMEN'S TENNIS
Aquinas 5, Calvin 4
 
Calvin dropped a hard-fought 5-4 non-conference decision to Aquinas Tuesday afternoon at the Riverview Racquet Club. The Knights are now 2-3 on the year.
 
Aquinas took a 2-1 lead through doubles play, winning 8-6 decisions at No. 1 and No.3 doubles while Calvin's No. 2 doubles tandem of seniors Jordan Ipema (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) and Elise Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) claimed an 8-4 victory.
 
Calvin's singles points came from sophomore Megan Visser (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) at No. 1 singles, junior Bethany Zoerhof (Holland/Holland Christian HS) at No. 4 singles and sophomore Samantha Reitsma (Grand Rapids/Northpointe Christian HS) at No. 5 singles.
 
Calvin is back in action on March 18 when it takes on the University of Puget Sound in Orlando, Florida. The match will be the first for Calvin on its spring break trip.
