Women's Track and Field Team Lands Four on USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

Four members of the Calvin women's track and field team have been named to the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team. The four individuals so honored from Calvin are senior Kaitlin Diemer, juniors Alyssa Penning and Carissa Verkaik and sophomore Nicole Michmerhuizen.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met either of the following athletic standards: a student-athlete must have competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.

All four Calvin athletes that were so honored qualified for the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past May.

Diemer (Caledonia/South Christian HS) was a national qualifier in the 1,500 meters while Penning (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) was a qualifier in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Verkaik (Holland/Holland Christian HS) was a qualifier in the high jump while Michermhuizen was a qualifier in both the 10,000 meters and 5,000 meters. Penning claimed an All-America berth in the steeplechase, placing fifth.
