NCAA SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY THREE REPORT

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Calvin College sophomore Andrew Krafft collected his second All-America certificate of the week and the fourth of his collegiate career Friday night at the NCAA III Swimming and Diving Championships at the IUPUI Natatatorium. Krafft (Fort Wayne, IN) took sixth on the one-meter board with a score of 472.70 points.

On Wednesday night, Krafft took second on the three-meter board. A year ago, he was second on the one-meter board and third on the three-meter board.

Krafft's score surpassed his point production one on the one-meter board from lat year's national meet when he scored 459.0 points to take second.

Johann Schmidt of Tufts took first Friday night with a score of 527.35 points and was one of three individuals to surpass 500 points - a feat that no diver accomplished on the one-meter board last year.

"The competition has gotten much tougher," said Calvin diving coach Aaron Paskvan. "I was pleased with Andrew's performance tonight. He went for it with some difficult dives. He might have been off just a bit here and there but he gave it his best effort. He's had four cracks at being an All-Ameican and he's delivered on all four occasions. I'll take that any day of the week."

The finish by Krafft concludes a strong season of improvement said Paskvan. "Andrew has worked very hard this year and has gotten better," said Paskvan. "The goal next year is to go right back and continue to improve and I'm confident Andrew will reach that goal."

Also competing for Calvin on Friday was junior Elizabeth Counsell (Indianapolis, IN) in the 100 breaststroke prelims. Counsell did not advance out of the prelims, recording a time of 1:06.02 that was good for 19th place. She is scheduled to compete in the 200 breaststroke prelims on Saturday morning. On the men's side, junior Mark Rushlow (Goshen, IN) competed in the 100 backstroke prelims but did not advance, posting a time of 53.09 that was good for 35th place.
