Megan Rietema Named MIAA Specialty Player of the Week in Volleyball
MEN'S GOLF
Home course advantage proved to be no advantage for the Calvin men's golf team
as the Knights finished seven at an MIAA Jamboree at their home course - the
Watermark Country Club - with a score of 332 strokes. The seventh place finish
diminishes Calvin's chances at a top-four finish in the final MIAA regular
season standings and a competing spot for an NCAA III Tournament bid at next
springs MIAA Tournament. The Knights remain in sixth place in the league
standings and are now 21 strokes behind fourth place Adrian.
Hope is in control of first place, 20 strokes ahead of Alma. Hope also took
first place on Monday with a team score of 309 strokes, one stroke better than
second place Trine.
A bright spot for Calvin on Monday was the play of junior Ben Kuiper (Grand
Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) who tied for sixth place individually with a
round of 76. Kuiper remains in first place in the overall MIAA individual
standings with an average of 75.0 strokes-per-round.
Rounding out Calvin's finishers on Monday were junior Dave Sarkipato
(Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) with an 82, freshman James VanNoord
(Troy/Troy Athens HS) with an 85, sophomore Ross Ryzenga (Holland/Holland
Christian HS) with an 89 and senior Jake DeBoer (Byron Center/South Christian
HS) with a 91.
Marty Predmesky of Alma was Monday's tournament medalist with a 73.
Calvin will close out its MIAA season on Saturday at the eighth and final MIAA
Jamboree. The MIAA Jamboree will be hosted by Adrian at the Lenawee Country
