Wheaton 6, Calvin 1
WHEATON, IL - Calvin dipped to 0-3 on the year with a 6-1 defeat at sixth-ranked Wheaton (IL) Wednesday afternoon. In Wednesday's loss to Wheaton, Calvin trailed 4-0 at halftime and later trailed 5-0 before scoring in the 71st minute of play on a goal by junior Liz Cancel (St. Clair Shores/Fraser HS) with Cancel stealing the ball in the Wheaton defensive end and placing a shot just inside the far post.
Wheaton (3-0-0) answered with a goal moments later to close out the scoring. The host Thunder held a 26-8 shots at goal advantage.
Calvin used four goalkeepers in the match with freshman Stephanie Goeldner (Des Moines, IA/Des Moines Christian HS) collecting four saves, sophomore Ashton Hearn (Port Huron/Port Huron Northern HS) picking up two saves, freshman Lauren Merz (Spring Lake/Western Michigan Christian HS) two saves and sophomore Emily Mulder (Glen Elyn, IL/Wheaton Academy) one save.
