Andrew Bosma Named MIAA Position Player of the Week in Baseball
MEN'S GOLF
JACKSON - The Calvin men's golf team captured the Vic Cuiss Invitational title Monday with a team score of 312 strokes at the Jackson Country Club. Calvin tied Spring Arbor for first place but won the tournament crown on a tiebreaker as Calvin's fifth score was higher than Spring Arbor's fifth score. The four scores from a lineup of five determine the final team score. Calvin's fifth and tie-breaking score belong to freshman Jake Hoogstrate (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) who had a round of 83.
Calvin's top individual on Monday was sophomore Ben Kuiper (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) who carded a round of 76 while senior Jess Hendriksma (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) and freshman Ross Ryzenga (Holland/Holland Christian HS) had rounds of 78. Kuiper, Hendriksma and Ryzenga were all named to the all-tournament team.
Calvin's fourth man was sophomore Dave Sarkipato (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) with a round of 80.
In addition to Hoogstrate's round of 83, freshman David Veen (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) had a round of 85, serving as Calvin's alternate.
Calvin returns to action next Monday when it competes at the Furniture City Classic at the Quail Ridge Golf Club beginning at 8:30 a.m.
