Women's Tennis Picks Up 8-1 Win at Olivet

Calvin 8, Olivet 1
EAST LANSING - Calvin picked up an 8-1 conference win over Olivet Tuesday afternoon to improve to 6-7 overall and 3-1 in MIAA action. The Knights are one match behind MIAA co-leaders Hope and Albion. Calvin hosts Adrian on Thursday and Hope on Saturday.
In its win over Olivet, Calvin swept the three doubles points and then claimed the top five singles flights. Olivet's lone win came at No. 6 singles in a three-set match. The remaining five Calvin singles points were decided in straight sets. In doubles action, seniors Melissa Oosterhouse and Kaitlin Spoelhof improved to 10-3 on the year with an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles while senior Michelle Busscher and sophomore Elise Doezema moved to 7-6 on the season with an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Freshmen Lauren Schlagenhauf and Bethany Zoerhof were also 8-3 winners at No. 3 doubles.
Claiming singles wins for Calvin were Oosterhouse, Spoelhof, Busscher, Schlagenauf and sophomore Jordan Ipema.
Thursday's home match against Adrian is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
