Rebecca Kamp & Megan Rietema Receive MIAA Volleyball Player of the Week
Honors;
Lucas Wilgenburg Named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week in Men's Soccer
 
VOLLEYBALL

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named
Calvin middle hitter Rebecca Kamp its Player of the Week and Calvin setter
Megan Rietema its Specialty Player of the Week in volleyball for matches played
through September 19.
Player of the Week
Kamp, a junior from Orland Park, Ill. (Chicago Christian HS), had 88 kills for
a .448 hitting percentage in five matches, three of them against
nationally-ranked opponents. She had 13 kills for a .522 hitting percentage in
an MIAA victory over Saint Mary’s, and added 15 kills for a .667 percentage in
a loss to Wittenberg, Ohio, during the Border Battle Tournament, in which she
was named to the all-tournament team. Kamp also added 20 blocks and 17 digs for
the week. She is being honored as Player of the Week for the second time this
season and sixth time in her career.
Specialty Player of the Week
Rietema, a freshman from Grand Rapids (Grand Rapids Christian HS), dished out
209 assists (11.0 per game) in five matches for the week, and added 32 digs and
12 blocks. Against Saint Mary’s, she had 29 assists, four digs and two kills.
She had 54 assists and six digs in a five-set match against Heidelberg, Ohio
and 52 assists and six digs in a five-set victory over Ohio Northern at the
Border Battle Tournament, in which she earned all-tournament honors. Rietema is
being honored as Player of the Week for the second time this season and in her
career.
Calvin returns to action on Tuesday night when it hosts Albion at 6:30 p.m. at
Calvin's Van Noord Arena.
MEN'S SOCCER
For the third time in his career, Calvin College senior Arie Wilgenburg has
been named the MIAA’s Defensive Player of the Week in men’s soccer. Wilgenburg,
a senior from Visalia, Calif. (Central Valley Christian HS), anchored a tough
Calvin defense as the Knights posted shutout wins over Carthage, Wis., 2-0, and
Hiram, Ohio, 3-0, to improve to 6-0.
A defensive back, Wilgenburg has been a part of a Calvin team that has
outscored the opposition 15-2 through six games this fall. The Knights are
currently the top-ranked team in Division III men’s soccer. Calvin returns to
action on Wednesday when it hosts Adrian at 4 p.m. at Calvin’s Zuidema Field.
