LIVONIA - Calvin upped its season record to 3-1-0 with a 3-0 non-conference victory at Madonna University Wednesday afternoon. The Knights dominated play, particularly in the first half when they scored all three goals.

Sophomore Jillian Honderd (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS) put the Knights on the board in the 25th minute of play with a rush into the box and blast to the far post for her first goal of the year and sixth of her collegiate career. Senior Carly Prins (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS) then hooked up with a familiar connection for her first goal of the year, heading in a corner kick from teammate Lauren Heyboer (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) that put the Knights up 2-0. The goal by Prins came with 13:24 left in the first half. The goal by Prins was also the 28th of her collegiate career.

Freshman Brittany Hieftje (Holland/Holland Christian HS) closed out the scoring with just over five minutes left in the first half, heading in a cross from teammate Stephanie Malburg (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Northern HS). The goal by Hieftje was the first of her collegiate career.

Calvin then held fast in the second half, limiting Madonna to just one shot over the final 45 minutes of play. Calvin finished the game with a 20-1 shots at goal advantage. Freshman Ashton Hearn (Port Huron/Port Huron Northern HS) went the distance for the Knights in nets to record her third shutout victory of the young season.

Calvin will now prepare for a busy weekend as it will host DePauw University on Friday in a game slated to start at 5 p.m. at Zuidema Field. The setting will be the same on Saturday afternoon when the Knights host nationally-ranked Wheaton (IL) at 5 p.m.
