Men's Soccer Team Receives #1 Ranking for First Time
Kamp & Rietema Receive MIAA Player of the Week Honors in Volleyball
MEN'S SOCCER
For the first time in school history, the Calvin men's soccer team holds the
top spot in the Division III National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top
25 poll. The Knights move up a spot this week after starting off the season
with a pair of victories. Defending national champion Messiah (PA) held the
pre-season number-one spot but suffered a 2-1 loss to Hobart (NY) Friday night
and dropped to #17 in this week's poll. Hobart is now ranked second.
Calvin opened its 2010 season with a 1-0 win over Milwaukee School of
Engineering on Friday and followed with a 3-0 win over Goshen on Saturday. Both
games were part of the Cal Bergsma Memorial Tournament.
Calvin is now preparing for a weekend trip to the Chicago suburbs as the
Knights will journey to Wheaton (IL) Friday night for a 7 p.m. (CST) game under
the lights at Wheaton's Joe Bean Field. The game will feature a video stream
via the WETN website at: http://www.wheaton.edu/wetn/
Wheaton is also off to a 2-0 start and is ranked 18th in this week's NSCAA
Division III Top 25 poll. On Saturday, Calvin will journey over the highway to
nearby Naperville, Illinois, to face North Central College. Saturday's game
against North Central will also take place at 7 p.m. (CST).

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named
Calvin middle hitter Rebecca Kamp its Player of the Week and Calvin setter
Megan Rietema its Specialty Player of the Week for games played through
September 5.
Kamp, a junior from Orland Park, Ill. (Chicago Christian HS), had 32 kills for
a hitting percentage of .545 in leading the Knights to three consecutive wins
during the Midwest Challenge over the weekend. Against Mount Union, Ohio, she
had 15 kills in 18 attempts for a hitting percentage of .833. Kamp also had 14
blocks, seven digs and five service aces for the tournament. She is being
honored as Player of the Week for the fifth time in her career.
Rietema, a freshman from Grand Rapids (Grand Rapids Christian HS), dished out
102 assists (11.3 per game) in directing the Calvin offense during its three
victories at the Midwest Challenge. She also had 14 blocks, 14 digs and eight
kills for the tournament. She is being honored as Specialty Player of the Week
for the first time in her career.
