Men's Tennis Wins Two Inside Huizenga Tennis & Track Center
 
MEN'S TENNIS
Calvin 9, Davenport 0
Calvin 5, Lake Superior State 4
 
The Calvin men's tennis team upped its season record to 3-0 with a pair of non-conference victories inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center on Thursday. Calvin opened the day with a 9-0 win over Davenport University. The Knights then claimed a come-from-behind 5-4 win over Lake Superior State late Thursday night.
 
In the win over Division II Lake Superior State, Calvin swept the three doubles flights to grab an early 3-0 lead. Freshman Preston Phillips and Roland Eldridge picked up a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles with senior Andrew Rescorla and freshman Brian DeMaagd winning 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. Freshman Jon Goorhouse and junior Andrew DeVlieger then won a key 9-7 decision at No. 3 doubles.
 
Lake Superior State (3-5) then claimed victories at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles to take a 4-3 lead but the Knights came back to tie the match 4-4 with a 6-3, 6-2 win by Eldridge at No. 5 singles. Freshman Philip Reinken then claimed the match deciding point with a 6-2, 6-4, win at No. 6 singles.
 
Calvin will now break until next Wednesday when it travels to Grand Valley State for a non-conference match.
