CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR SEPT. 21, 2009
Van Sickel Named MIAA Co-Offensive Player of the Week in Men's Soccer
For the first time in his collegiate career, Calvin College junior forward Kurt Van Sickel has received MIAA Offensive Player of the Week honors in men's soccer. Van Sickel shares the award this week with Olivet forward Mike May.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Van Sickel scored four goals this past weekend as the nationally-ranked Calvin men's soccer team rolled to a pair of victories at a weekend tournament hosted by Wittenberg, Ohio.
A graduate of Trinity Christian High School (PA), Van Sickel scored two goals in a 3-0 victory over Otterbein, Ohio, and added two more as Calvin defeated the host Tigers, 8-0.
The pair of victories bumped Calvin's win streak to four games as the Knights are currently 5-1-0 overall. Ranked 25th in the most recent D3soccer.com Top 25 poll, Calvin returns to action on Wednesday when it plays host to Alma at 4:00 p.m. in the conference opener for both teams.
The Calvin/Alma match will be aired via Stretch Internet Broadcast (see: http://www.calvin.edu/sports) and feature a live stats scoreboard (http://www.calvin.edu/scoreboard).
