Calvin Grad - Ex-Softball Player Throws Out First Pitch at Major League
Baseball Game;
Volleyball Team Nationally-Ranked in Pre-Season Poll;
Women's Soccer Team Nationally-Ranked in Pre-Season Poll
SOFTBALL
During her four years on the Calvin softball team, Loren Scarbrough faced many
pressure-packed moments as a fulltime infield starter. None of those moments,
she said, could compare to what she faced on August 8 when she was chosen to
throw out the first pitch in front of a sell-out crowd of 38,593 fans prior to
a game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh’s

VOLLEYBALL
The 2009 pre-season Division III Top 25 women's volleyball poll has been
released by the American Volleyball Coaches Association and Calvin is ranked
16th.
A year ago, Calvin posted a 26-5 overall record and advanced to the NCAA III
Tournament for the fifth consecutive year. The Knights return four starters and
11 letterwinners from last year’s team which finished second in the MIAA
standings with a 14-2 conference record. Calvin's pre-season outlook can be

Calvin is scheduled to open its season on September 4 and 5 when it competes
at the Ohio Northern Invitational.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
The 2009 pre-season Division III Top 25 women's soccer poll has been released
by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and Calvin is ranked
17th. A year ago, Calvin posted an 18-2-2 overall record and advanced to the
NCAA III Tournament for the fourth straight year.
The Knights return a host of starters and letterwinners from last year's team.
