Men's Basketball Falls To Ferris State in Exhibition Game

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Ferris State 80, Calvin 66

BIG RAPIDS -- Ferris State used a 36-17 scoring run over the final 11 minutes of the first half to take control of Tuesday's 80-66 exhibition win over the visiting Calvin Knights. The host Bulldogs shot 56.3 percent from the floor in the first half, en route to taking a 48-31 halftime lead.

Ferris State extended its lead to 25 early in the first half before the Knights rolled off a 21-7 run to close to within 11 at 63-52. Ferris State responded with an 11-3 run however to put any Calvin comeback plans to rest.

Ferris State's Justin Keenan led all scorers with 19 points while Josh Young had 13 and Verdell Billingsly 10. Calvin was led by Caleb Veldhouse with 17 followed by John Mantel with 13 and Dustin Smith with 10.

Ferris State held a 53-29 rebounding edge and also shot 45.6 percent (31 of 68) of its field goal attempts while Calvin shot 39.3 percent (22 of 56) from the floor.

Calvin will officially open its season on November 21 when it faces Grace Bible College in the first round of the Calvin College Tip-Off Tournament. The tournament will include Spring Arbor and Baldwin-Wallace and will be held at the Quest Center on the campus of Grand Rapids Christian High School.
