CORNER ADVANCES TO DISCUS FINALS AT OLYMPIC TRIALS

EUGENE, OR - Katie Corner, a 2004 Calvin College graduate, has advanced to the discus finals at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials currently being held at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.

A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School, Corner advanced to the discus finals, scheduled for June 29, with a throw of 174-4. Corner is seeded 11th in the field of 12 competitors throwing in the finals. The top three finishers when the finals are completed will gain berths to the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Competing in a field of 24 throwers, Corner had the 10th-best performance late Friday night. Corner had a throwing series of 174-4, 170-10 and 172-3.

Stephanie Brown Trafton leads the field with a throw of 208-8 with Suzy Powell-Roos second (201-5) and Aretha Thurmond third (201-1).
