CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR MARCH 24, 2008

Baseball Series With Kalamazoo Rescheduled;
Women's Tennis With Olivet Reschedule;
Tennis Teams & Player Regionally Ranked

BASEBALL

Calvin's four-game baseball series with Kalamazoo has been rescheduled for May 7 and 8. The conference series was originally scheduled to begin with a doubleheader at Kalamazoo this past Saturday and continue with a twinbill at Calvin today. Both twinbills were postponed because of snow on the ground. The series will now begin on May 7 with a doubleheader at Kalamazoo scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. and conclude on May 8 with a doubleheader at Calvin slated to start at 2:00 p.m.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

The Calvin women's tennis against Olivet this afternoon was postponed because of snow on the Calvin tennis courts. The match has been rescheduled for April 7 at Calvin with the start time set for 3:00 p.m.

MORE CALVIN MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TENNIS

The latest set of ITA Division III Central Regional Rankings have been released and both Calvin tennis teams are regionally-ranked. On the women's side, Calvin is ranked 11th in the Central Region rankings. Calvin is currently 6-1 this year including 1-1 against regionally-ranked opponents. Individually, Calvin has three players ranked as freshmen Melissa Oosterhouse (Grand Rapids Christian HS) and Kaitlin Spoelhof of Holland Christian HS) are ranked 13th and 17th respectively while sophomore Elisabeth Geenen (Holland Christian HS) is ranked 30th. Oosterhouse is currently 6-1 for the Knights while playing at No. 1 singles while Spoelhof is 5-2 at No. 2 singles. Meanwhile, Geenen is 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

In addition, sophomore Rachel Strikwerda (Holland Christian HS) and Oosterhouse are ranked 12th in doubles. The tandem is currently 3-4 in doubles play this year.

On the men's side, Calvin is ranked 12th in the Central Region rankings. Calvin is currently 4-1 this year including 1-1 against regionally-ranked opponents. Individually, senior Ricky Tilton (Gap, PA) is ranked 12th in the region. Tilton is currently 3-0 this year at No. 1 singles. In doubles, Calvin's No. 1 doubles tandem of Tilton and junior Marcus Zeilstra (Oak Brook, IL) is ranked 10th. The tandem is currently 2-2 on the year.

The Calvin women's tennis team is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday when it travels to Saint Mary's for a conference match scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. On Friday, Calvin will travel to nationally-ranked Wheaton (IL) for a non-conference match scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. (CST). On Saturday, Calvin will face Olivet Nazarene at 11:30 a.m. (CST) in a match scheduled to be played at Wheaton.

The Calvin men's tennis team is back in action on Thursday when it hosts nationally-ranked (NAIA) Aquinas. The match is scheduled to be played at the Orchard Hills Tennis Center beginning at 4:45 p.m. On Saturday, Calvin will host Grand Valley State at 4:30 p.m. at the Riverview Tennis Center.
