Women's Tennis Opens MIAA Campaign With Victory;
More Post-Season Honors for Harris and Veldhouse

NOTRE DAME, IN -- The Calvin women's tennis team picked up a 6-3 victory at Saint Mary's on Wednesday night in the MIAA opener for the Knights. Ranked 14th in the most recent Central Regional rankings, Calvin is now 7-1 overall.
Calvin opened the match by taking two of the three doubles points with freshman Kaitlin Spoelhof (Holland Christian HS) and sophomore Jill VanVeen (Grand Rapids Christian HS) winning at No. 2 doubles and sophomores Elisabeth Geenen (Holland Christian HS) and Rachel DeGroot (Lombard, IL) winning at No. 3 doubles.
Calvin then took four of the six singles points with freshman Melissa Oosterhouse (Grand Rapids Christian HS) winning at No. 1 singles, Geenen winning at No. 3 singles, sophomore Rachel Strikwerda (Holland Christian HS) winning at No. 4 singles and freshman Michelle Busscher (Western Michigan Christian HS) winning at No. 5 singles.
Calvin will now prepare for a challenging weekend of competition as the Knights travel to nationally-ranked Wheaton on Friday and then face Olivet Nazarene on Saturday in a match scheduled to be played at Wheaton.
MORE BASKETBALL HONORS FOR HARRIS AND VELDHOUSE
Calvin College juniors Marcia Harris and Caleb Veldhouse have again received post-season basketball honors. Harris has been named an honorable mention All-American by Women's DIII News the monthly newsletter of women's Division III basketball while Veldhouse has received the same honor from DIII News, the monthly newsletter of men's Division III basketball.
A 6-1 center, Harris (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) is receiving the honor for the first time. Earlier this year, she was named to the All-MIAA first team for the third straight year and landed a spot on the D3hoops.com Great Lakes All-Region first team.
A 6-2 guard, Veldhouse (Sioux Falls, SD/Sioux Falls Christian HS) is receiving the honor for the second consecutive year. Earlier this year, he was named to the All-MIAA first team for the third straight year and was selected to the D3hoops.com Great Lakes All-Region second team.
