CALVIN WEEKEND SPORTS ROUNDUP FOR OCTOBER 7, 2006

Darrin Cline Named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week

MEN'S SOCCER

For the first time in his collegiate career, Calvin junior Darrin Cline has been named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week in men's soccer. A native of Grandville and a graduate of Grandville High School, Cline had a shutout performance in a 1-0 win over Albion last Wednesday and then kept Adrian scoreless in the first half of Saturday's 6-1 victory before yeilding to a back-up goalkeeper for the second half.

Cline has not allowed a goal in more than 500 minutes of play. In 10 games of action this fall, Cline has a season goals-against-average of 0.48 that ranks 23rd in the latest NCAA III men's soccer statistics. On the year, Cline has four shutout victories and 35 saves.

Calvin is currently 7-4-1 overall. The Knights have won five straight games including six of their last seven. In conference play, Calvin is currently tied for first place with Kalamazoo as both teams have 5-1-0 league records.

Calvin returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Tri-State at 4:00 p.m. at Calvin's Zuidema Field. The game will be broadcast via RealAudio through the Calvin web site at: http://www.calvin.edu/sports/ram/calvinsports.ram
