Kyle Fletcher Named MIAA Co-Player of the Week in Baseball;
Jim Deters Minor League Baseball Update

CALVIN BASEBALL

For the second consecutive week, a member of the Calvin baseball team has
earned MIAA Player of the Week honors. Calvin senior catcher Kyle Fletcher has
earned MIAA Co-Player of the Week honors along with Hope infielder Mike
VanderVelde. A native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and a graduate of Fort Wayne
Concordia Lutheran High School, Fletcher is receiving MIAA Player of the Week
honors for the first time in his career.

In six conference games this week, Fletcher batted 10-for-20 with nine RBIs and
four runs scored as Calvin won five of six including a four-game sweep of
Olivet. In the series with Olivet, Fletcher belted his third home run of the
spring. He finished the week with a slugging percentage of .650. In the year,
Fletcher is batting .366 which ranks second on the Calvin team.

Calvin is currently 12-16 overall including 12-8 in the MIAA which places the
Knights in a tie for third place in the league standings with Albion. Calvin
opens a four-game series at co-MIAA leader Hope on Thursday with a doubleheader
slated to start at 2:00 p.m. The twinbill will be aired via RealAudio through

JIM DETERS UPDATE

2005 Calvin College graduate Jim Deters recently made his fourth appearance of
the season for the Kinston Indians of the advanced Class A Carolina League and
tossed one inning of shutout relief in helping his team gain a 7-3 victory over
the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Also a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School,
Deters struck out one and did not allow a hit in the appearance.

Deters has now made four appearances for Kinston -- all in relief. He is 0-1
overall with a 1.42 earned run average in 6.1 innings of work. Deters has
struck out four batters without a walk and has allowed six hits. He has not
allowed a run in his last two outings.
