CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR OCTOBER 3, 2006
Cross Country, Women's Soccer and Volleyball Teams Nationally-Ranked
For the third consecutive week, Calvin has placed four teams in their
respective Division III national polls and in three cases, the Calvin teams
have moved up in the polls.
In men's cross country, Calvin is ranked number-one in the Division III
Coaches Poll for the third consecutive week. The Knights received all eight
first place votes in this week's poll while Wisconsin-LaCrosse is ranked
second.
Meanwhile, the Calvin women's cross country team has moved up two spots in the
Coaches Poll as the Knights are ranked sixth in this week's poll. The Knights
started out the year ranked 14th, then moved up to eighth place last week.
Both Calvin cross country teams are led by head coach Brian Diemer.
The Division III Men's and Women's Coaches polls can be found at:
http://ustfccca.cstv.com/ . Both Calvin cross country teams return to action
on Friday when they compete at the Michigan Intercollegiates in Big Rapids on
the campus of Ferris State University.
In women's soccer, Calvin has moved up one spot in both the D3kicks.com Top-25
poll and in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division
III Top-25 poll as the Knights are ranked fifth in the D3kicks.com poll and
sixth in the NSCAA Division III poll. Led the head coach Mark Recker, the
Knights were ranked sixth in the D3kicks.com poll last week and seventh in the
NSCAA Division III poll. The 11-0-0 Knights return to action on Saturday when
the travel to rival Hope for a game slated to start at noon.
Finally, the Calvin women's volleyball team, led by head coach Amber Warners,
is ranked 19th in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association Division
III Top-25 poll. The ranking is an improvement of three spots from last week
when the Knights were ranked 22nd.
Currently 16-1 overall, Calvin broke into the national rankings three weeks
ago when they were ranked 24th before moving up to 22nd last week. The Calvin
women's volleyball team returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts St. Mary's
(IN) at 6:30 p.m. in a conference match.
