Calvin Volleyball Players Receive MIAA Player of the Week Honors;
Jenny Toonstra On Board as Calvin's Athletics Trainer
Men's Golf Outing Postponed

ZONDERVAN AND KRIKKE RECEIVE MIAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

Two members of the nationally-ranked Calvin women’s volleyball team have received MIAA Player of the Week honors.

For the fifth time in her collegiate career, Calvin junior setter Katie Zondervan has been named the MIAA Specialty Player of the Week and for the second time this year, Calvin junior middle-hitter Molly Krikke has been named the MIAA’s Player of the Week.

Zondervan is from Lakewood, California. She is a graduate of Valley Christian High School. In conference victories over Albion, Kalamazoo and Tri-State, Zondervan averaged 14.22 assists and 4.0 digs-per-game. In league play, Zondervan is averaging an MIAA-leading 14.59 assists-per-game. In overall games, she is averaging 14.43 assists-per-game and is ranked among the national leaders in that category.

Krikke is from Greenwich, Ohio. She is a graduate of South Central High School. This past week in Calvin’s three conference victories, Krikke averaged 4.6 kills and 1.33 digs-per-game while also posting a hitting percentage of .500. In conference play, Krikke is currently second in the MIAA statistics in hitting percentage (.365) and is fifth in kills-per-game (3.62). In overall matches, Krikke has posted a .391 attack percentage and is averaging 3.69 kills, 1.22 blocks and 1.12 digs-per-game.

Ranked 22nd in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Top-25 poll, Calvin is currently 16-1 overall and in first place in the MIAA standings with a 9-0 conference record.

The Knights are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday when they host St. Mary’s at 6:30 p.m. at the Calvin Fieldhouse.

JENNY TOONSTRA RETURNS HOME AS CALVIN’S ATHLETICS TRAINER

Jenny Toonstra has now been officially on the job for two months as Calvin’s head athletics trainer. The position has offered Toonstra a chance to return home as she is a 1999 graduate of Calvin College and also a graduate of Grandville Calvin Christian High School.

Toonstra previously served as an athletics trainer at Colby-Sawyer College. MEN’S GOLF OUTING POSTPONED

The MIAA men’s golf outing scheduled for Monday afternoon was postponed because of rainy weather conditions in Grand Rapids. The outing was scheduled to be hosted by Calvin at the Watermark Country Club. The outing will be made up on Monday, October 16 at 1:00 p.m. The outing will be held at the Watermark Country Club and Calvin will serve as host.

Calvin is scheduled to return to action on Thursday when it competes at the seventh MIAA outing of the year. The outing will be hosted by Hope at the Wuskowhan Players Club.
