Women’s Volleyball Remains Unbeaten in MIAA – Picks Up Road Win At St. Mary’s;
Women's Golf Eighth at MIAA Outing

VOLLEYBALL
Calvin 3, St. Mary’s 0 (30-21, 30-23, 30-20)

NOTRE DAME, IN -- Calvin remained on top of the MIAA standings and stretched its season win streak to four matches with a 30-21, 30-23, 30-20 victory at St. Mary's Friday night. Ranked 24th in the latest AVCA Division III Top 25 poll, Calvin (13-1 overall, 6-0 MIAA) posted a .300 team attack percentage in gaining Friday night's win.

Four Calvin players notched double-digits in kills led by senior Kristen Kalb (Stow, OH) who tallied 14 kills. Senior Katy Luimes (Caledonia, ON) was next with 13 kills while senior Lorilyn Vogel (Orange City, IA) and junior Molly Krikke (Greenwich, OH) had 11 kills apiece. Kalb also had three service aces and nine digs. Calvin's back row effort was led by sophomore Lauren DeGroot (Tulare, CA) who tallied 22 digs while junior setter Katie Zondervan (Lakewood, CA) had 16 digs and a match-high 44 assists.

Calvin's defensive effort helped limit St. Mary's (10-3 overall, 3-2 MIAA) to a team attack percentage of .101. Lorna Slupczynski led the Belles with nine kills and 10 digs.

Calvin will now break until next Tuesday when it hosts Albion in a conference match slated to start at 6:30 p.m. at the Calvin Fieldhouse.

WOMEN'S GOLF

MARSHALL -- Calvin took eighth place at the first MIAA outing of the year on Friday, posting a team score of 432 strokes. The outing was held at the Medalist Golf Club and was hosted by Olivet. The tournament was originally scheduled for September 13 but was postponed until Friday because of weather. Friday's outing also served as the first day of competition of the Olivet Fall Invitational and will conclude Saturday morning.

Host Olivet used its home course to its advantage, firing a first place team score of 331, finishing 21 strokes ahead of second place Tri-State. Calvin's eighth place total was 37 strokes behind seventh place Kalamazoo and 69 strokes ahead of ninth place Adrian.

Calvin's top individual finisher on Friday was junior Linnea Trippett (White Plains, NY) with a round of 104. Freshman Kelli Visser (Grand Rapids Christian HS) followed with a round of 107 while sophomore Jessica Bruggink (Unity Christian HS) had a round of 109. Rounding out Calvin's finishers were freshmen Julienne Louters (Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a round of 112 and freshman Tessa Mulder (Haslett HS) with a round of 126.

Lindsey Pipkin of Olivet garnered medalist honors on Friday with a round of 78.
