CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 4TH
VOLLEYBALL
Junior middle hitter Molly Krikke earned player of the week honors for the
first week of the volleyball season with her impressive play in the opening
season tournament in Mount Union, Ohio. Krikke is from Greenwich, Ohio and a
graduate of South Central High School and is in her third year on the varsity
squad at Calvin.
Krikke, an All-MIAA 2nd team selection last season, averaged 4.2 kills per game
with a hitting percentage of .491 and averaged 1.38 blocks per game in Calvin's
four victories over Westminster, Case-Western, Malone, and host Mount Union.
The Knights dropped only one game in the four victories when Malone took the
first game in the final match.
Calvin junior setter Katie Zondervan ( Lakewood, CA) was also nominated for
this weeks award.
Calvin is back in action Wednesday, September 6th with a match at Tri-State.
MEN'S SOCCER
With Hope College's 1-0 loss to Goshen on Monday, Calvin claims the title of
the Cal Bergsma Memorial Tournament. Calvin was the only team to win both
games in the four team tournament as the Knights beat Muskingum Friday 5-2 and
Goshen on Saturday 1-0. This marks the third time in the tournments six years
that Calvin has claimed the title, winning it in 2003 and sharing the title
with Otterbein in 2004.
Calvin will play next on September 8th against Wheaton in Illinois.
