JIM DETERS PICKS UP WIN #10 FOR LAKE COUNTY CAPTAINS
EASTLAKE, OH - 2005 Calvin College graduate Jim Deters picked up his
team-leading 10th pitching victory of the season for the Lake County Captains
Tuesday night, pitching seven strong innings in a 7-2 victory over the Delmarva
Shorebirds.
Also a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School, Deters (10-8) scattered six
hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking two.
Deters allowed only a two-run homer to Vito Chiaravalloti in the top of the
fourth, which gave the Shorebirds (18-31) a brief 2-1 lead. Mike Conroy put
Deters back in position for the win in the bottom of the fourth however,
blasting a grand slam home run to put the Captains up 5-2. The grand slam was
part of a five-run inning for the Captains as they went on to collect the
victory, improving to 27-21 during the second half of the South Atlantic League
season.
Deters lowered his season earned run average to 3.39 with the victory Tuesday
night. He has won six of his last nine starts for the Captains. He also leads
Lake County in innings pitched (148.2) and strikeouts (95) and has issued just
24 walks on the year.
The Lake County Captains are a Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians,
