MEN’S SOCCER RANKED 23rd IN D3KICKS.COM Top-25 Poll
The inaugural Division III Top-25 polls by D3kicks.com have been released and the Calvin men’s soccer team is ranked 23rd in the men’s pre-season Top-25 poll. The Calvin women’s soccer team received several votes in the women’s Top-25 poll but is not one of the top 25 teams ranked.
Messiah, (PA) is ranked number-one in both the men’s and women’s polls. This is the first year of the D3kicks.com web site which features national rankings, team pages, interviews, game recaps and message boards. The web site can be found at: http://www.d3kicks.com

A year ago, the Calvin men’s soccer team finished the year with a 17-4-2 overall record and reached the third round of the NCAA III Tournament. The Calvin women’s soccer team finished 16-3-2 in 2005, gained a share of the final MIAA title and reached the NCAA III Tournament for the first time since 1998.

TRI-CAPTAIN OF CALVIN MEN’S SOCCER TEAM PROFILED IN GRAND RAPIDS PRESS AFTER BATTLING BACK FROM CANCER
Calvin College senior David Holwerda has been profiled by Grand Rapids Press sportswriter Dean Holzwarth after battling back from Hodgkin’s Disease. A tri-captain on the Calvin men’s soccer team this fall, Holwerda found out that he had Hodgkin’s Disease in the fall of 2003. Less than a year later, Holwerda was back on the soccer pitch, scoring eight goals including three game-winners.
