JIM DETERS STRETCHES WIN STREAK TO THREE
EASTLAKE, OH * Calvin College graduate Jim Deters picked up his third consecutive pitching victory and upped his season record to 7-6 in the process on Wednesday night, leading the Lake County Captains to a 7-3 victory over the Greensboro Grasshoppers.
A native of Portage and a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School, Deters went seven strong innings against the visiting Grasshoppers, scattering eight hits while striking out one. Deters did not walk a batter.
Deters gave up all three of his runs in the fifth when Greensboro tied the game at three but the host Captains came back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to put Deters in position for the win. Deters then tossed shutout ball in the sixth and seventh. Righthander Matt Loberg tossed the final two innings for Lake County to register the save.
At 7-6 on the year, Deters leads the Captains in victories. He also leads the team in innnings pitched (110) and strikeouts (70) and has issued only 16 walks.
The Lake County Captains are a Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians and a member of the South Atlantic "Sally" League.
