DETERS GETS NO-DECISION IN SECOND START FOR LAKE COUNTY CAPTAINS
SALISBURY, MD * Jim Deters was denied his first pitching victory in a Lake County Captains uniform on Wednesday night as his team suffered a 5-4 defeat at the Delmarva Shorebirds in a South Atlantic League contest. A 2005 Calvin graduate, Deters struck out six batters without a walk in six innings of work Wednesday night. Deters departed with a 4-2 lead but the Lake County bullpen was unable to make the lead stand up as the Shorebirds came up with two runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to pull out the win.
Deters allowed a run in the first and a run in the third but then settled down to retire 10 of the final 12 batters he faced including a stretch when seven consecutive batters were retired, including six by way of strikeouts.
Deters scattered six hits and allowed only one hit over his final three innings of work.
Deters has now struck out 12 batters in 12 innings this year for Lake County without surrendering a walk. He has a season earned run average of 3.00.
The Lake County Captains are a Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians and located in Eastlake, Ohio.

Also known as the “Sally League”, the South Atlantic League is one of the oldest professional leagues in minor league baseball and was once home to Major League home run king Henry Aaron.
