MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD OPEN INDOOR CAMPAIGNS

ALLENDALE * The Calvin men's and women's track and field teams opened up their indoor schedule by competing at the Grand Valley State Indoor Invitational on Friday night.

Here are Calvin highlights from the women's competition:

*Senior Camille Medema (Grand Rapids Christian HS) second in one-mile run (5:09.56)

*Junior Lydia Singer (Wilmington, DE) fourth in 5,000 meters (18:55.70)

*Junior Katie Bolt (Grand Rapids Christian HS) first in high jump (5-4)

*Junior Kelly Zwier (Kalamazoo Christian HS) fourth in long jump (17-2)

*Sophomore Sarah Wittingen (East Grand Rapids HS) second in 55-meter hurdles (8.57)

*Freshman Julie Bratt (Lynden, WA) third in triple jump (35-1 ¼)

*Junior Megann VanderVliet (Ancaster, ON) third in shot put (40-0)

*Senior Christine Hendricks (Cincinnati, OH) sixth in shot put (37-8)

*Freshman Ashley Glover (Northview HS) eighth in shot put (36-9)

*Freshman Kristina VanderWal (Western Michigan Christian HS) 12th in shot put (34-5 ½)

*Calvin's 4x400 meter relay team of freshman Lauren Bergstrom (Rochester, MN), Bolt, sophomore Sarah Weller (Calvin Christian HS) and Wittingen fourth with a time of 4:08.15.

Here are highlights from the men's competition:

*Sophomore Tad Hulst (Zeeland HS) first in the one-mile run (4:22.14)

*Junior Tim Finnegan (Los Alamos, NM) fifth in the 5,000 meters (15:01.7)

*Senior Nate Meckes (Bay City, MI) first in the shot put (57-3 ½)

*Senior Tim Zwiers (Pella, IA) second in the triple jump (43-0 ½)

*Sophomore Luke Allison (Lakeville, MN) third in the triple jump (42-6 ¾)

*Sophomore Jason Vande Kopple (Grand Rapids Christian HS) fifth in the high jump (6-0)

*Sophomore Kelby McClelland (Mercer, PA) fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.17)

*Calvin's 4x400 meter relay team of sophomore Joel Baker (Kalamazoo Christian HS), sophomore Jared Cok (Bozeman, MT), freshman Brad Stroner (Lakewood HS) and freshman Matt Veltkamp (Grand Rapids Christian HS) fourth in a time of 3:35.96.

Both teams return to action next Friday when they compete at another invitational hosted by Grand Valley State.
