CALEB VELDHOUSE NAMED MIAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK IN MEN'S BASKETBALL

For the first time in his collegiate career, Calvin College freshman
Caleb Veldhouse has received MIAA Player of the Week honors in men's
basketball.

A 6-2 point guard, Veldhouse played a key role in Calvin victories over
Olivet and Albion last week.

A native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and a graduate of Sioux Falls
Christian High School, Veldhouse scored 20 points in a 73-71 victory
over Olivet Wednesday night including the game-winning basket with just
1.6 seconds left to play that snapped a 71-71 tie.

He followed with 15 points including 11 in the second half in a 69-66
upset victory at third-ranked Albion Saturday afternoon. The victory
over Albion helped create a three-way tie for first place in the MIAA
standings as Calvin, Hope and Albion are all 5-1 in league play.

Over the course of the week, Veldhouse was 14-of-30 from the floor,
5-of-10 from three-point range and 2-of-2 at the free throw line. He
was also credited with three rebounds, three assists and two steals. In
addition, he committed only two turnovers in 47 minutes of action.

Calvin is currently 12-5 overall and returns to action on Wednesday
when it journeys to Kalamazoo for an 8:00 p.m. contest at Kalamazoo's
Anderson Athletic Center.

EDITORS NOTE: In Saturday's Calvin Sports Report, it was noted that
Calvin had won four consecutive games at Albion's Kresge Gymnasium.
In fact, Calvin has won five consecutive games at Kresge. An NCAA III
Tournament national semi-quarterfinal game against Mississippi College
was omitted in Saturday's list.

Kresge Gymnasium:
