The Calvin men's club ice hockey team has picked up where it left off
as it opened the 2006 half of its 2005-06 schedule with victories over
Muskegon Community College and rival Hope this past weekend.

with a 7-2 victory. Scoring goals for Calvin were seniors Max Sieplinga
(Grand Rapids Christian HS), Nick VerKuyl (Whitby, ON) and Dave Veeneman
(Grand Rapids Christian HS), junior Jeff Crawford (Northville, MI),

On Saturday night, Calvin journeyed to the Edge Ice Arena on the north
side of Holland to take on the Flying Dutchmen of Hope College and for
the fourth time this year, the Knights defeated their rivals, this time
by a 10-4 score.

notched a hat-trick with three goals.

With the pair of weekend victories, Calvin is now 16-2-1 overall and
ranked number-one in the North Region of the latest American Collegiate
Hockey Association's Division III poll for club teams.
Sieplinga leads Calvin in scoring with 40 goals and 38 assists for a
whopping total of 78 points while VerKuyl is close behind with 31 goals,

year, scoring 16 goals and notching 15 assists for a total of 31 points

With its current ranking, Calvin is a likely candidate to again earn a
trip to the upcoming national tournament scheduled to be held in Florida
this March. To help raise funds to defray travel costs to the
tournament, the Calvin ice hockey team will again be bussing and serving
tables at Russ' East Restaurant on 28th Street (2750 28th Street S.E.)
in Kentwood (Michigan) on February 13 from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
The Knights are scheduled to be at home at the Jolly Roger Ice Club
this Friday and Saturday. On Friday, Calvin will host Albion at 10:00
p.m. On Saturday, Calvin will host Lawrence Tech University with the
opening face-off scheduled for 9:00 p.m.
