Women's Hoops Stretches Win Streak to Seven

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Calvin 77, North Central College 67

NAPERVILLE, IL * The nationally-ranked Calvin women’s basketball team stretched its win streak to seven games with a 77-67 victory at North Central College Wednesday evening.

Ranked 17th in the latest D3hoops.com Top-25 poll, Calvin (9-1) shot 50 percent overall and placed four players in double-digits in scoring led by junior Lisa Winkle (South Christian HS) who notched her 19th collegiate double-double with 20 points and a career-high 19 rebounds. Winkle connected on eight of 15 from the floor and also picked up four assists. Sophomore Charis Larson (Grand Rapids Christian HS) also came up with a career-high 11 points while senior Sarah Winkle (South Christian HS) and freshman Marcia Harris (Grand Rapids Christian HS) had 10 points apiece with Harris grabbing eight boards, dishing out seven assists and blocking two shots.

Sophomore point guard Lindsey Peuler (Grandville HS) also had a strong all-around game with eight points, four rebounds, four assists, three steals and just two turnovers including a pair of three-point baskets. Freshman Sarah Partridge also had a pair of triples off the bench to finish with six points.

North Central was led in defeat by Danielle Tinkoff with 18 points and nine rebounds while Brianne Parra had 13 points and Shay Green 12 points.

Calvin led 31-26 at halftime and outrebounded North Central (5-6) 45-36. Calvin held North Central to 31.5 percent field goal shooting but the Knights committed 21 turnovers on the evening while the host Cardinals had just 12 turnovers.

Calvin returns to action on January 5 when it travels to Albion for a conference game slated to start at 7:30 p.m.
