Women's Basketball Stretches Win Streak to Six With Victory over Bulldogs

Calvin 63, Adrian 43
GRAND RAPIDS * The nationally-ranked Calvin women's basketball team stretched its win streak to six games and moved into a tie for first place in the MIAA standings with a 63-43 victory over Adrian Tuesday night at the Calvin Fieldhouse.
Ranked 17th in the latest D3hoops.com Top-25 poll, Calvin (8-1 overall, 3-0 MIAA) is now tied for first place in the MIAA standings with Hope.
Calvin once again used a stellar defensive effort to gain a victory as the Knights held Adrian (2-7 overall, 0-4 MIAA) to 27.5 percent field goal shooting while forcing the Bulldogs into 25 turnovers.
Calvin has now held its last five opponents under 50 points and has compiled a defensive scoring average of 48.8 points a game during that span.
On offense, Calvin used a balanced scoring attack led by freshman Kelly Trewhella (Rockford HS) who pumped in a career-high 11 points off the bench including a 3-for-6 showing from beyond the three-point arc. Senior Sarah Winkle (South Christian HS), junior Lisa Winkle (South Christian HS) and freshman Marcia Harris (Grand Rapids Christian HS) also contributed 10 points apiece. Sarah Winkle had a superb all-around effort, converting 4-of-5 from the field, 2-of-2 from the free throw line and also grabbing a game-high eight rebounds along with five steals, four blocks and two assists. Lisa Winkle added four rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks while Harris had five boards and one blocked shot.
Calvin finished the game with 16 steals and eight blocked shots on the evening. Sophomore point guard Lindsey Peuler (Grandville HS) also collected four steals to go with five points and two rebounds while sophomore Charis Larson (Grand Rapids Christian HS) had four points, four assists and three steals.
Adrian was led in defeat by Ashley Hart who collected 13 points off the bench.
Calvin finished with a 43-38 rebounding advantage and chalked up 17 assists as a team.
Calvin returns to action on December 28, when it travels to North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. Calvin's game against North Central is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. (EST).
