CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR NOVEMBER 18, 2005

MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO FREDONIA STATE IN PK SHOOTOUT

GRAND RAPIDS - On the frozen tundra of Marvin A. Zuidema Soccer Field,
visiting Fredonia State University (NY) advanced to the national quarterfinals
to face Gustavus Adolphus College (MN).

Fredonia State (17-3-4) advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals by winning a
penalty kick shootout 3-2 over host Calvin after battling the Knights (17-4-2)
to a 0-0 overtime time. Friday's game was played in temperatures hovering in
the low 30's with nearly a foot of snow surrounding the playing field.

Saturday's national quarterfinal game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. (EST).
Gustavus Adolphus will be playing in its second straight national quarterfinal
game.

Friday's Calvin/Fredonia State game was a tale of two halves as Fredonia
State held control in the first half while Calvin held control throughout the
second half.

Calvin turned up the pressure in the pair of 10-minute overtime sessions,
outshooting Fredonia State 5-2 but the Knights were unable to put the ball in
the back of the net.

In the penalty kick shootout, Calvin misfired on three of its first four
attempts but remained alive after Fredonia State sent two attempts off the
goalpost. Calvin junior Nick Capisciolto (Unity Christian HS) was the only
player for the Knights to connect on their first four attempts. Senior Kurt
Visker (Grand Rapids Christian HS) then connected on Calvin's fifth attempt,
tying the shootout at 2-2. With the game on the line, Fredonia's Lee Wilson
stepped up and drilled a low hard shot to the right-hand corner, just past the
outstretched hands of Calvin senior goalkeeper Joe Westra (Grand Rapids
Christian HS).

Fredonia State finished the game with a 13-11 shots at goal advantage with
Matt Borchard picking up four saves for Fredonia State while Westra had one
save for Calvin.

Friday's game was the final collegiate contest for Calvin seniors Joe
Westra, Kurt Visker, Peter Malefyt (Lansing Christian HS), John Van Wylen
(Grand Rapids Christian HS), Matt Cosnek (Hopewell, PA) and Levi Kool (Holland
Christian HS).
