CALVIN MEN'S/WOMEN'S SOCCER AND WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAMS HEADED TO NCAA
III TOURNAMENT PLAY

The Calvin men's and women's soccer and women's volleyball teams are
headed to the NCAA III Tournament this week as the NCAA unveiled tournament
fields this morning.

The women's volleyball team will head to an NCAA III regional tournament
hosted by Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. The Knights (28-8) will
open tournament play on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. against Hiram College
(OH). The Calvin/Hiram winner will play Friday evening in a regional semifinal
match against the winner of a Thursday match between Capital University (OH)
and Millikin University (IL). Also competing in the eight-team regional are
host Wittenberg, Fontbonne (MO), Ohio Northern and the College of Mount St.
Joseph.

Calvin and Hiram (28-4) have already met this year with Hiram defeating the
Knights in three games ironically in a tournament held at Wittenberg September
16 and 17. Hiram gained an at-large bid to the NCAA III Tournament. The
Terriers are members of the North Coast Athletic Conference and took second
place in their conference behind league champion Wittenberg.

The Calvin women's volleyball team earned a bid to the NCAA III Tournament
by capturing the MIAA Tournament title this past weekend. Calvin will be
making its 15th appearance in the NCAA III Tournament including its fourth
appearance in the last seven years. The Knights are 14-16 all-time in NCAA III
Tournament play and reached the second round last year before falling to
eventual national runner-up Washington University (MO) in four games.

In men's soccer, Calvin received an at-large bid to the NCAA III Tournament
and will host Edgewood College (WI) on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. (EST). Calvin
(15-4-1). Edgewood (12-8-1) earned a bid to the NCAA III Tournament by winning
the Lake Michigan Conference Tournament title on Saturday, defeating
Concordia-Mequon (WI) 1-0 in the title tilt. Calvin defeated Concordia-Mequon
3-1 earlier this year. The winner of the Calvin/Edgewood game will travel to
Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday for a second round game at a time yet to
be determined.

Calvin will be making its second straight appearance in the NCAA III
Tournament and its fifth overall. A year ago, Calvin suffered a 1-0 overtime
loss to Wartburg (IA) in the second round. Calvin is 3-5 all-time in NCAA III
Tournament play.

Calvin is one of two teams from the MIAA to earn a spot in the NCAA III
Tournament field as Hope (17-3-0) gained the MIAA's automatic qualifying spot
and will play in a four-team field at Wisconsin-Whitewater beginning on
Wednesday.

In women's soccer, Calvin will travel to a four-team regional hosted by
Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio. Calvin (16-3-1) will open play on
Friday against Ohio Wesleyan University (13-5-0) with Otterbein (18-1-0) facing
the College of Mount St. Joseph (13-5-2) in Friday's other regional game.
The Friday winners will meet on Saturday at Otterbein. The times for Friday
and Saturday have not yet been determined.

The Knights (16-3-1) will be making their first NCAA III Tournament appearance
since 1998 and their third appearance overall. In two prior trips to the NCAA
III Tournament, Calvin has posted a 1-2 record.

Calvin advanced to national tournament play by gaining the MIAA's automatic
qualifying spot. Calvin finished as co-champion with Hope at 15-1-0 in
conference play but gained the league's automatic qualifying spot based on
head-to-head goal differential with Hope. Calvin defeated Hope 2-0 in the
first meeting of the year between the two schools with Hope wining the return
match 2-1. Hope gained an at-large bid to the tournament and will compete in a
four-team regional hosted by Denison University. Hope will face DePauw in a
first round game on Friday.
