Kyle Trewhella Receives Academic Honor From NABC
Christine Hendricks Named MIAA Volleyball Player of the Week
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Calvin College junior Lisa Winkle has been named a pre-season honorable
mention All-American by the Women's Division III Newsletter.
A 6-0 center, Winkle hails from Grand Rapids and is a graduate of Grand Rapids
South Christian High School. As a sophomore last season, Winkle averaged 16.1
points and 8.5 rebounds a game while landing a spot on the All-MIAA first team
for the second straight year. Winkle also blocked 72 shots while connecting on
nearly 60 percent of her field goal attempts.
Winkle helped the Calvin women's basketball team to a 25-5 record during the
2004-05 season and helped the Knights reach the Elite Eight round of the NCAA
III Tournament.
Winkle and her teammates held their first practice of the 2005-06 season this
evening. The Knights are scheduled to open their season on November 18 when
they face Simpson College (IA) in a first round tournament game of the
Wisconsin-Lutheran Tip-Off Tournament. The game will be a meeting of teams
that reached the 2005 NCAA III Tournament.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Calvin College senior Kyle Trewhella has been named to the Honors Court by the
National Basketball Coaches Association. In order to qualify for the NABC
Honors Court award, a collegiate basketball player must be a junior or a senior
on a varsity men's basketball program and maintained a cumulative grade point
average of 3.25 or above.
A native of Rockford and a graduate of Rockford High School, Trewhella is a
business major at Calvin with an emphasis in marketing. This is the second
straight year that Trewhella has received the award from the NABC.
A 6-2 shooting guard, Trewhella will serve as a captain on this year's
2005-06 Calvin men's basketball team. He averaged 10.0 points and 2.3
rebounds a game on Calvin's 2004-05 team that finished 27-7 overall and
reached the NCAA III Final Four.
Trewhella and his teammates officially opened practice for the upcoming season
this past Saturday.
Calvin is scheduled to open its 2005-06 campaign on November 18 when it hosts
Grace Bible College in a first round game of the Calvin Tip-Off Tournament.
VOLLEYBALL
For the second time in her career, Calvin College senior Christine Hendricks
has been named the MIAA's Volleyball Player of the Week. A native of
Cincinnati, Ohio, Hendricks is a graduate of Turpin High School. A 5-11
middle-hitter, Henricks averaged 5.75 kills and 7.5 digs with a .442 attack
average in the Knights' four-game victory over Alma last week. Hendricks is
currently second in the MIAA statistics in hitting percentage (.330) and is
seventh in kills-per-game (3.78).
Calvin returns to action on Wednesday night when it hosts St. Mary's in an
MIAA match. Wednesday's match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p..m.
