VOLLEYBALL

ANGOLA, IN - Calvin faced conference opponent Tri-State (4-2, 0-2 MIAA)
Thursday night and came out victorious. Calvin won in three games, 30-20,
30-24, 30-21. The Knights hold a 7-1 overall record and a 1-1 record in the
MIAA, with a loss to Hope College on Tuesday.
Sophomore Katie Zondervan played a big part in the Knight's win, handing out
52 assists while getting 10 digs.
The Knights combined both outstanding offense and defense to defeat Tri-State.
Junior Christine Hendricks shined with a match-high 8 kills and four blocks.
Hendricks' attack percent was a season-high .607. Junior Lorilyn Vogel
contributed 9 kills and 1 block, while junior Kristen Kalb had 8 kills and 3
blocks. Sophomore Molly Krikke added 6 kills and 1 block. Lauren De Groot had
20 digs and Katie Schultz contributed 12.
Leading the Thunder was Sallie Richardson with 10 kills and Melissa Blake with
3 kills and 6 blocks, while Rainbow Benardski had 83 assists.
Overall, Calvin had 46 kills and 12 blocks while Tri-State had 23 kills and 12
blocks.
Calvin goes on tomorrow and Saturday to the Wittenburg University Border
Battle Invitational in Springfield, OH. The tournament also includes
conference opponents Hope, Alma, and Kalamazoo.
MEN'S GOLF
Calvin 6th place-349 strokes
DEARBORN - Calvin took sixth at the Red Poling Classic held Thursday afternoon
at the Michigan TPC with a team score of 349 strokes. Malone captured first
place with a score of 301.
Calvin was led by senior Ryan Fischer (North Haledon, NJ) with a round of 85
followed by senior Nick Bolt (New Berlin, WI) with a round of 87. Next on the
Calvin list was junior Jake Wolffis (Western Michigan Christian HS) with a
round of 88 while freshman Brandon Kerr (Frankenmuth HS) had an 89 and junior
Tim VanVugt (Brookfield, WI) a 91.
Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it competes at an MIAA outing hosted
by Alma at the Pine River Country Club.
