DETERS PICKS UP SECOND PROFESSIONAL WIN
Jim Deters has picked up his second straight victory for the Mahoning Valley
Scrappers. The 2005 Calvin College graduate went five innings in a 3-1 victory
over the Hudson Valley Renegades Thursday night. Pitching in his sixth
professional start, Deters struck out five batters, walked two and scattered
four hits. He allowed one earned run and departed with a 3-1 lead that would
hold up.
A native of Portage and a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School, Deters
is now 2-1 on the year with a 1.55 earned run average. He leads the Scrappers
in innings pitched (29) and has 16 strikeouts against just seven walks and has
allowed just 22 hits.
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers are part of the Class A short season member of
the New York-Penn League. The Scrappers are an affiliate of the Cleveland
Indians.
