DETERS A HARD-LUCK LOSER WEDNESDAY NIGHT
YOUNGSTOWN, OH - Jim Deters continues to excel for the Mahoning Valley
Scrappers but pitching victories also continue to be hard to come by for the
2005 Calvin College graduate.
Deters was a hard-luck loser in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday
night against the visiting Williamsport Crosscutters as the Scrappers were
defeated 1-0. A native of Portage and a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High
School, Deters was locked in a pitcher's duel before departing with one out
in the sixth inning when he allowed the only run of the game. In 5.1 innings
of work, Deters struck out two batters without a walk while scattering six
hits.
Deters is now 2-2 on the year with a team-leading 1.57 earned run average.
Deters has allowed just nine runs this year of which six have been earned. He
also leads the Scrappers in innings pitched (34.1) and is tied for the team
lead in games started (7).
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers are a short season Class A affiliate of the
Cleveland Indians. The Scrappers compete in the New York-Penn League. For
