LIVONIA * In its final non-conference game of the year, Calvin fell 10-4 to
Madonna University. With the loss, the Knights are now 12-19 on the season,
and finish their non-conference schedule at 2-11. Madonna, ranked 16th in the
most recent NAIA rankings, improved to 36-12 this season.
Junior Mark Asma (Kalamazoo Christian) started the game off well for Calvin,
hitting a homerun to lead-off the game, his second of the season.
Madonna tied the game in the second inning, and pulled ahead to stay in the
fourth and fifth innings, scoring two and three runs in the innings
respectively.
In the seventh, the Knights rallied for three runs to get with in two runs at
6-4. An RBI single by junior Mark Tigchelaar GR Christian) and a two-run
single by junior Tyler Van Eps (Denver, CO) accounted for Calvin's runs.
Madonna answered in its half of the seventh, scoring four runs to put the game
out of reach.
On the day, Calvin collected 11 hits. Tigchelaar, Van Eps, and senior Josh
Vriesman each had two singles apiece. Asma, junior Tim Stoeffler (GR Community
College), freshman Pieter Groot (Uxbridge, MA), and sophomore's Bobby Fisher
(Walkerville) and Brad Brummel (South Christian) had the other hits for the
Knights.
Junior Kyle Snoeyink (0-2) (Calvin Christian) started and suffered the loss for
Calvin. Snoeyink pitched three innings and allowed one earned run on three
hits. Every Calvin pitched yielded a run to Madonna's offense with the
exception of freshman Aaron Davis (St. Mary's), who pitched a scoreless eighth
inning.
Calvin has only three games remaining on the regular season schedule as it
travels to Albion College Thursday and Friday for a three game series against
their MIAA rival Britons. The Knights head into the final series tied for
third in the MIAA with Olivet while Albion is only one game behind.
