CAlVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR March 22, 2005
Dan Aultman Named to Division III NABC All-District First Team
GRAND RAPIDS - For the second straight year, Calvin senior Dan Aultman has
received Division III all-district honors from the National Association of
Basketball Coaches (NABC).
A native of Ludington and a graduate of Mason County Central High School,
Aultman has been named to the Great Lakes All-District first team by the NABC.
A year ago, the 6-8 forward was named to the second team.
This year, Aultman averaged 15.9 points and 5.8 rebounds a game while
connecting on 53.7 percent of his field goal attempts and 80.9 percent of his
free throw attempts.
This past Saturday in the consolation game of the NCAA III Final Four, he
became just the second two-year player in Calvin men's basketball history to
score 1,000 points in a career as he scored 13 points in a 98-84 victory over
York College (PA), bringing his final career total to 1,005 points. Aultman
joined former All-American Dan Davis as the only two players in Calvin men's
basketball history to achieve the feat as Davis scored 1,121 points from
1987-to-1989. Aultman and Davis are both graduates of Muskegon Community
College.
This past weekend, Aultman led Calvin to a third place finish at the NCAA III
Final Four as the Knights were defeated by the University of Rochester (NY)
65-62 in the semifinals Friday night and then topped York in Saturday's
consolation game. Aultman scored 16 points in Friday's loss to Rochester and
followed with 13 points against York on Saturday. Calvin was making its fourth
trip to the NCAA III Final Four, having previously done so in 1990, 1992 and
2000.
Calvin finished the year with a 27-7 record, marking the fourth-highest
single-season win total in Calvin men's basketball history. The Knights also
captured their second straight MIAA Tournament title and reached the NCAA III
Tournament for the 15th time in school history and for the fourth time in six
years.
Aultman is the third Calvin player in the last seven years to receive NABC
All-District honors as Aaron Winkle was so honored in 1999 and 2000 while
Jeremy Veenstra received the award in 2001, 2002 and 2003.
