CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2004

MEN'S GOLF

With just two league outings left to play, the Calvin men's golf team has
retaken fourth place in the overall MIAA team standings by a narrow margin.

At the sixth MIAA outing of the year, hosted by Hope at the Wuskowhan Players
Club, Calvin posted a fourth place team score of 322, four strokes ahead of
fifth place Albion. The score allowed the Knights to slip past Albion in the
overall team standings by four strokes as the Knights have a six-round total of
1,909 strokes to the 1,912 of Albion.

The race for first place in overall standings also narrowed as Hope moved
within nine strokes of league-leading Tri-State with a first place score of 297
in Monday's outing with Tri-State and Olivet second at 299. Olivet remains in
third place in the overall team standings, 14 strokes behind Hope and 23
strokes behind Tri-State.

Calvin senior Mike Bratt (Lynden, WA) led the Knights on Monday with a round of
73 that was good for a tie for fourth place individually. Bratt was followed
by sophomores Jeff TenBrink (Kalamazoo Christian HS) and Jake Wolffis (Western
Michigan Christian HS) with rounds of 82. Senior Matt Kelly (Western Michigan
Christian HS) was Calvin's fourth man with a score of 85 with junior Nick Bolt
(New Berlin, WI) rounding out Calvin's finishers with a score of 90.

Justin Howard of Tri-State was Monday's medalist with a round of 71.

Calvin will now break until next Monday when it hosts the seventh and
second-to-last MIAA outing of the year. Calvin will host the outing at the
Watermark Country Club.

MEN'S SOCCER

Two members of the nationally-ranked Calvin men's soccer team have received
weekly recognition from the MIAA.

For the second consecutive week, Calvin senior forward Joel Veldhouse has been
named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week. Veldhouse shares the award this week
with Bryant Loomis of Hope. It marks the fifth that Veldhouse has received
MIAA Player of the Week accolades. In conference victories over Adrian and
Albion last week, Veldhouse scored four goals and picked up one assist. In a
7-0 win over Adrian, Veldhouse scored three goals for his second hat trick of
the season and third of his career. A native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and
a graduate of Sioux Falls Christian High School, Veldhouse currently leads the
MIAA in goals (6) and points (12).

In addition, Calvin junior goaltender Joe Westra has been named MIAA Defensive
Player of the Week. Westra shares the award this week with Alma senior
goaltender Kyle Lieberman. Westra picked up a pair of shutout victories last
week as the Knights defeated Adrian 7-0 and Albion 2-0. A native of Grand
Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Westra has six
shutout victories this year including 17 in his collegiate career.

Calvin is currently ranked eighth nationally and number-one in the Great Lakes
Region.

Calvin (8-0-1 overall, 3-0-0 MIAA) returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts
Alma (2-0 MIAA) at 4:00 p.m. in a meeting of teams with undefeated MIAA
records. Tuesday's game will be broadcast via RealAudio through the Calvin web
