CALVIN VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS RECEIVE MIAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

Two members of the Calvin volleyball team have received weekly honors from the
MIAA as senior Kara Kuipers has been named MIAA Player of the Week while
freshman Kate Zondervan has been named MIAA Specialty Player of the Week.

Kuipers is from Hudsonville and is a graduate of Unity Christian High School.
She is receiving MIAA Player of the Week accolades for the third time in her
career. A four-year starter at the middle-hitter position, Kuipers led Calvin
to three-game sweeps over conference opponents Olivet, St. Mary's and
Tri-State as the Knights stretched their winning streak to seven matches. In
the trio of conference matches last week, Kuipers collected 40 kills and 16
blocks. In the win over St. Mary's, she collected a hitting percentage of
.450 and followed with a .750 hitting percentage in a win over Tri-State that
included 13 kills and 11 digs.

A year ago, Kuipers finished third nationally in blocks-per-game average
(1.78) and is again off to a fast start in that statistical category as she is
averaging 1.52 blocks-per-game.

A first-year setter, Zondervan is from Cerritos, California and is a graduate
of Valley Christian High School. In Calvin's three victories last week,
Zondervan was credited with 105 assists including 49 in the match against St.
Mary's.

Zondervan is averaging 12.96 assists-per-game with a single-match career-high
of 60 assists in a four-game win over North Central College (IL) earlier this
year.

Calvin is currently 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the MIAA which is good for a first
place tie with Alma in the conference standings.

Calvin returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Albion for a 6:30 p.m.
conference match. The Knights will then prepare to host rival Hope Thursday
night in a match scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
