Bareman Named to CoSIDA Softball Academic All-District IV Second Team
GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- For the second straight year, Lea Bareman has received
CoSIDA Academic All-District IV honors in softball.
A junior at Calvin, Bareman has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District
IV second team. A year ago she was named to the first team.
The college division of the Verizon Academic All-America program includes NCAA
II, NCAA III and NAIA schools. The Verizon Academic All-District and
All-America teams are selected by the College Sports Information Director's
Association of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible for nomination, a player must
be a starter or a key reserve with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20.
Bareman is from Hudsonville and is a graduate of Unity Christian High School.
Bareman served primarily as Calvin's designated player this spring and batted
.244 with 10 runs scored and four runs batted in. Bareman has a career batting
average of .309, collecting 59 hits in 191 trips to the plate.
An elementary education major with a minor in Spanish, Bareman carries a 3.6
grade point average and was named to the 2003 MIAA Academic Honor Roll. She has
also played one year of junior varsity basketball at Calvin.
Calvin finished the year with a 19-15 overall record and finished third in the
final MIAA standings. Calvin took second in the MIAA regular season standings
with an 11-3 record and then took fourth at the four-team MIAA Tournament.
