MEN'S SWIMMING
INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Although the collegiate swim season has been over for
nearly two weeks, Calvin junior Peter Boumgarden (Naperville, IL) received a
chance to compete in the prestigious Counsilman Classic this weekend. Named
after legendary Indiana swim coach Doc Counsilman who recently passed away, the
invitational included several of the top swimmers from around the country at
every level.
Competing in the 100 meter butterfly, Boumgarden nearly qualified for the U.S.
Olympic Trials this summer as he took 14th in the morning prelims with a
career-best time of 55.75 that was just three-tenths of a second away from
advancing him to the Olympic Trials this summer.
Boumgarden's swim also advanced him into the evening "B" round session
where he clocked a time of 56.21 to again finish 14th.
In finishing 14th in the morning prelims, Boumgarden finished nearly a half
second ahead of Kenyon's Andrejs Duda, .the 2004 NCAA Division III winner in
