CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR SATURDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2003
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
After a tough week of exams Calvin rewarded itself with a conference victory
over visiting Adrian College, 66-47, on Saturday afternoon at the Fieldhouse.
With the win the Knights increase their win streak to four games and improve to
6-3 overall and 1-1 in the MIAA.
After shooting 48.3 percent in the first half the Knights held to a 34-27
halftime advantage. Calvin continued its hot shooting in the second half,
torching the nets for 54.5 percent from the floor (26-of-51). The Knights were
aided in large part by a 14-0 run to start the second half, the catalyst of
which came from junior guard Kristen McDonald (West Catholic) who scored 11 in
that run.
Calvin was led by McDonald who scored 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the
floor. Freshman Lisa Winkle (South Christian) added 11 points and three
rebounds while junior Lisa Nanninga (Grand Rapids Christian) had 10 points and
six rebounds. Senior Andrea Estelle (Allendale/Allendale) grabbed a game-high
nine rebounds while sophomore guard Katherine Pettinga (South Christian) dished
out a career-high eight assists.
The Knights will return to action on New Year's Eve in a 3:00 p.m. contest
on the road at Alma.
