Calvin 20th in Latest United States Sports Academy Director's Cup Standings

Calvin College is once again among the nation's leaders in the annual
Director's Cup chase. Sponsored this year by the United States Sports
Academy, the Director's Cup competition is held at the NCAA I, II and III
levels as well as for NAIA schools. The standings are based on points earned
by teams that compete in NCAA and NAIA Championship events and is presented
annually by the National Association of Collegiate Director's of Athletics
(NACDA) to the best overall collegiate athletics program in the country.

After the recently completed fall sports season, Calvin is 20th with a total
of 143.5 points. The fall sports standings include the sports of men's and
women's cross country, field hockey, football, men's and women's soccer
and women's volleyball.

Calvin was able to build its point total on the performance of its cross
country teams at the NCAA III Championships this past November as the men's
cross country team captured its second national championship to earn 100
Director's Cup points while the women's cross country team tied for 14th to
earn 43.5 points.

Defending Director's Cup champion Williams of Massachusetts once again leads
the standings as the Ephs have a total of 359 points and hold a 77.5 point lead
over second place College of New Jersey.

Calvin is one of two MIAA schools in the top 25 as Hope is 24th with 125
points.

Last year, Calvin finished 22nd in the final Director's Cup standings with
403.75 to finish in the top 25 for the eighth consecutive year.

Since the Director's Cup was initiated at the NCAA Division III level for
the 1995-96 academic year, Calvin is one of only nine schools to finish in the
top-25 all eight previous years. Joining Calvin in the group are Williams,
College of New Jersey, Amherst (MA), Middlebury (VT), Ithaca (NY),
Wisconsin-LaCrosse, SUNY-Cortland and Emory (Ga.).
