CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR MONDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2003

RICKY SHILTS NAMED MIAA CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK IN MEN'S BASKETBALL

Calvin College junior Ricky Shilts has been named MIAA Co-Player of the Week in
men's basketball. A native of Kalamazoo and a graduate of Kalamazoo Central
High School, Shilts shares the award this week with fellow junior Travis Spaman
of Hope College. Ironically, both players scored a career-high 23 points in
victories over Defiance College this past week.

A first-year point guard on the Calvin men's basketball team, Shilts spent the
previous two years at Kalamazoo Valley Community College where he played
basketball and golf.

Shilts has started in all eight of Calvin's games this year at the point guard
spot and is averaging 10.6 points and 2.8 rebounds a game. In an 89-75 win
over Defiance this past Tuesday night, Shilts connected on four three-point
field goals including a clutch off-balance triple from the top of the key as
the shot clock expired that allowed the Knights to take an 11-point lead with
under four minutes to play. Shilts was 4 of 9 from beyond the arc in the
Calvin victory that allowed the Knights to get back to the .500 mark at 4-4 on
the season. He was also 7 of 8 at the free throw line while also grabbing four
rebounds.

Shilts is currently second in the MIAA in three-point field goal percentage as
he has connected on 45.7 percent (16-of-35) of his attempts this year. He is
also third in the MIAA in free throw percentage (82.6), trailing only Calvin
teammates Chris Prins and Kevin Broene.

Calvin returns to action on December 27 when it journeys to San Diego to face
NAIA Division I institution Christian Heritage University. The game against
the 12th-ranked team in the latest NAIA Division I poll is scheduled to begin
at 10:30 p.m. EST. The game against Christian Heritage will be the first of
two Calvin games in Southern California as the Knights will face NCAA Division
III institution Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on December 30. The game against
Mudd-Scripps will also begin at 10:30 p.m. (ET).
