    CALVIN VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS RECEIVE MIAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

    Two members of the Calvin women's volleyball team have received MIAA Player
    of the Week accolades after playing key roles in a pair of conference victories
    last week. Freshman hitter Kristen Kalb has been named MIAA Player of the Week
    for the first time in her career while senior Trisha Balkema has been named
    MIAA Specialty Player of the Week for the second straight week.

    Kalb hails from Stow, Ohio. She is a graduate of Stow Munroe Falls High
    School. An outside hitter, Kalb averaged 4.57 kills-per-game along with a
    hitting percentage of .357 in conference victories over Hope and Kalamazoo last
    week. Kalb collected a total of 32 kills along with nine digs in the pair of
    victories. Kalb is currently ranked eighth (3.64) in the MIAA in
    kills-per-game and ninth in hitting percentage (.262).

    Balkema is from Highland, Indiana. She is a graduate of Illiana Christian
    High School. A two-year starter at the libero position, Balkema has been a
    catalyst on defense for the Knights. In the victories over Hope and Kalamazoo,
    she posted a two-match total of 53 digs. In a the win over Kalamazoo, Balkema
    matched a career-high for a single match with 30 digs. In seven games played
    in the two matches, she did not commit an error in the back row. Balkema
    currently ranks second in the MIAA in digs-per-game (5.44).

    Calvin is currently 19-5 overall and tied for first place in the MIAA
    standings with a 10-1 league record. The Knights have won their last six
    matches including seven of their last eight. Calvin will open a busy week on
    Tuesday night when it hosts Tri-State in a non-conference match at 7:00 p.m..
    On Thursday, Calvin will entertain Olivet in a conference match slated to start
    at 6:30 p.m.. On Friday, Calvin will open up play in its own Midwest
    Invitational with a first round match against Adrian at 4:30 p.m.. The
    tournament encounter will also double as a conference match for the Knights.
