    CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2003

    WOMEN'S GOLF

    CASCADE -- The first-ever Calvin/Hope Invitational was held at the Thornapple
    Pointe Golf Club Thursday afternoon and Calvin took third in a field of five
    teams.

    Co-host Hope took first with a team score of 341 followed by Manchester of
    Indiana in second at 348. Calvin's third place total was 385 with Aquinas
    taking fourth at 391 and Kalamazoo fifth at 393. Tri-State also had two
    competitors but did not have enough individuals to post a team score.

    Calvin was led by junior Dawn Svenkeson (Scandia, MN) who carded a round of 88
    to finish in a four-way tie for fourth place in the individual standings.
    Sophomore Annie Huizenga (Unity Christian HS) also cracked the top-12 as she
    finished in a tie for 12th place with a round of 90.

    Rounding out Calvin's finishers were sophomore Margaret Tassaro (Carnegie,
    PA) with a 101, sophomore Linnea Vincent (Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a
    106, sophomore Anne Prins (Unity Christian HS) with a 107 and sophomore Jen
    Buist (Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a 112.

    Jessica Strange of Manchester was the tournament medalist with a round of 82.

    Calvin returns to action next Friday and Saturday when it competes at the MIAA
    Championships hosted by Olivet at the Bedford Valley Country Club.
